In Ayurveda, the kapha dosha is one of the three doshas, or constitutional types, that make up an individual's unique physical and psychological constitution. The kapha dosha is characterized by qualities of stability, strength, and consistency. It is associated with the elements of earth and water, and is said to govern structure and lubrication in the body.
People with a predominantly kapha constitution tend to have a strong, sturdy build, with well-developed muscles and a tendency towards being overweight. They are often slow to warm up, both physically and emotionally, but once they get going, they can be very persistent and hardworking. They tend to have a calm, steady temperament and a good memory, and are generally patient and easy-going.
In terms of health, kapha types are prone to congestion and are more likely to develop conditions like allergies, sinusitis, and asthma. They may also be at risk for weight-related issues like obesity and diabetes. To maintain balance, kapha types are advised to follow a diet and lifestyle that is light, dry, and invigorating, and to avoid heavy, oily, and cold foods and activities.
