Ayurvedic Body Types Vata Pitta Kapha

In Ayurveda, the traditional Indian system of medicine, the body is believed to be made up of three fundamental energies or doshas: vata, pitta, and kapha. These doshas are thought to govern different physical and mental characteristics and to be present in different proportions in each person. Vata is associated with movement, change, and creativity. People with a predominantly vata dosha tend to be thin, light, and energetic, with a tendency towards dryness and coldness. They may be prone to anxiety and insomnia and may benefit from warm, nourishing foods and regular routines. Pitta is associated with transformation and digestion. People with a predominantly pitta dosha tend to be of medium build, with a strong metabolism and a tendency towards heat and intensity. They may be prone to irritation and inflammation and may benefit from cooling, soothing foods and activities. Kapha is associated with stability and structure. People with a predominantly kapha dosha tend to be heavier, with a slower metabolism and a tendency towards sluggishness and excess moisture. They may be prone to congestion and may benefit from light, dry foods and regular exercise. It is believed that everyone has all three doshas within them, but that one or two will tend to be more dominant.
