Ayurveda, an ancient system of medicine that originated in India, recognizes three main body types, or doshas, called Vata, Pitta, and Kapha. These doshas are believed to be related to the five elements of earth, water, fire, air, and ether, and are thought to govern different aspects of physical and mental functioning.
To determine your Ayurvedic body type, or dosha, you can take a quiz or consult with an Ayurvedic practitioner. Some common characteristics of each dosha are:
Vata: Vata types are generally thin, with dry skin and hair, and may be prone to anxiety and irregular digestion. They tend to have a quick metabolism and be more energetic and creative.
Pitta: Pitta types have a medium build, with warm and oily skin, and may be prone to irritability and digestion issues. They tend to have a strong metabolism and be driven and ambitious.
Kapha: Kapha types have a larger build, with oily and smooth skin, and may be prone to sluggishness and weight gain. They tend to have a slower metabolism and be more calm and steady.
It is important to note that everyone has all three doshas present in their body and mind, but one or two may be more dominant. Understanding your dominant dosha can help you make lifestyle and dietary choices that support your overall health and well-being.
