In Ayurveda, the kapha dosha is one of three doshas that represent the fundamental energies that govern the functioning of the body. The other two doshas are vata and pitta. Each person has all three doshas, but one or two of them tend to be dominant, which can help determine a person's physical and emotional characteristics.
The kapha dosha is associated with the elements of earth and water. It is responsible for providing structure and stability to the body. People with a predominance of kapha tend to have a strong, sturdy build, and they are generally calm, stable, and grounded. They may have a slower metabolism and tend to gain weight easily. They also tend to have a good memory and a strong immune system.
On the downside, excess kapha can lead to congestion, excess weight, and sluggishness. To maintain balance, it is important for people with a dominant kapha dosha to engage in regular physical activity, eat a light and nourishing diet, and avoid excess sleep and inactivity.
