In Ayurveda, the traditional medical system of India, the kapha dosha is one of three bodily constitutions, or doshas, that are believed to govern physical and mental processes. The kapha dosha is associated with the elements of earth and water, and is said to be responsible for the body's structure and stability. People with a predominance of the kapha dosha are believed to be calm, steady, and grounded, and to possess a strong immune system.
According to Ayurvedic principles, people with a kapha dosha tend to be physically strong and well-built, with a tendency toward being overweight. They may also have a slower metabolism and a tendency to retain water. Emotionally, they are often described as patient, reliable, and loving, with a tendency to be forgiving and easygoing. They are also thought to be slow to anger, and to have a deep capacity for compassion and understanding.
However, an excess of kapha in the body can lead to stagnation and imbalance. People with a kapha dosha may benefit from regular physical activity and a diet that is light and warming, to help maintain balance and prevent excess weight gain. They may also benefit from practices that help to stimulate and invigorate the body and mind, such as yoga or meditation.
