In traditional Ayurvedic medicine, the body types (also known as doshas) are believed to be determined by the balance of three bodily humors or energies: vata, pitta, and kapha. The pitta body type is characterized by a strong metabolism and a tendency towards heat, intensity, and determination. People with a pitta constitution are thought to be intelligent, driven, and focused, but may also be prone to irritability and anger if their pitta becomes imbalanced. They are often of medium build and may have a tendency towards acidity and inflammatory conditions. In order to maintain balance, people with a pitta body type are advised to follow a diet and lifestyle that is cooling and calming, and to avoid excess heat, stress, and intense physical activity.
