Pitta is one of the three Ayurvedic doshas, or mind-body types, in the traditional Indian system of medicine known as Ayurveda. According to Ayurveda, the pitta dosha is associated with the element of fire and is responsible for the body's metabolic processes, including digestion and the production of hormones. People with a predominantly pitta constitution tend to be of medium build, have good digestion, and be prone to feelings of anger or irritability when imbalanced. They are often intelligent, ambitious, and hardworking, but may also have a tendency towards perfectionism. To maintain balance, people with a pitta constitution are advised to avoid overheating and to consume cooling, nourishing foods and drinks.
