In Ayurveda, the traditional medical system of India, the three main constitutional types (prakriti) are vata, pitta, and kapha. Each person is believed to have a unique balance of these three doshas, which are thought to govern different physiological and psychological processes in the body.
Kapha is one of the three doshas and is associated with the elements of earth and water. People with a dominant kapha constitution are thought to have a sturdy, solid build and tend to be calm, patient, and easy-going. They are also said to have good endurance and a strong immune system.
However, when kapha is out of balance, it can lead to excess weight, congestion, and sluggishness. To maintain balance, people with a kapha constitution are advised to follow a diet and lifestyle that is light, dry, and warm, and to engage in regular physical activity. Certain herbs and spices, such as ginger and turmeric, are also believed to be helpful in balancing kapha.
